Named after Dr. Natalie H. Strand, MD, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12. A Mayo Clinic-trained chronic pain specialist, she is currently an interventional pain management physician. After her post-graduate fellowship, Dr. Strand competed in and won the The Amazing Race as part of the first all-female team, making her the first person with diabetes to win the TV show. Since winning, she has continued to advocate and spread awareness for the diabetes community, working with leading diabetes organizations to promote exercise and healthy living among people living with diabetes. She currently lives in Arizona with her husband and two children.
