Named for NFL Athlete Henry Alexander Kendall Simmons (Instagram @kendall_sim73 and Twitter @bigk73). Following his first season playing professional football for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2003, Kendall was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Unsure if he would be able to continue his football career, Simmons worked with his team of doctors and strong support network to learn how to manage his diabetes and sports career. He regained his strength and returned to the field, where he played every game of the 2005 season, ultimately winning Superbowl XL and going on to play 7 more seasons in the NFL. Now retired from professional football, Simmons is still very active in the diabetes community. He dedicates his time to diabetes care, raising awareness, properly managing blood glucose levels, and demonstrating that diabetes can be successfully integrated into your life and ambitions.
